High Resting Heart Rate

I weigh 190 pounds. I have a high resting heart rate that goes up to 180 beats per minute - my maximum limit - with moderate exercise. I know there are drugs, such as beta blockers, that can slow down heart rate. Is this something I should consider? Are there any side effects? Can I stop the medication without drawback symptoms?
